Build! Not! Here!
Hello!
Is anyone home? Haven't you heard about global warming?
Even
George W. Bush has finally admitted, though reluctantly, that there might be
something to it.
Specifically,
when it comes to carbon dioxide emissions into the air, your back yard doesn't
end at your property line, the city limits, or even the horizon. It's a global
thing! The erosion of our glaciers, erratic and violent weather world wide, and
the increasingly dangerous and huge wildland fires here at home provide pretty
strong evidence about what we're doing to our planet. We've
"developed" ourselves into a pretty big mess, and the best way out is
to clean up what we've got.
Adding
to the problem with new developments like the coal burning Highwood Generating
Plant is a step in the wrong direction.
It
is downright immoral for our elected officials to keep supporting this project,
and the environmental regulators were guilty of dereliction of duty in their
approval. I would love to see Montana take on a leadership role in
environmental responsibility. Regardless of what others are doing, the best
form of leadership is by example.
