Great Falls seeks public comment on Electric City Power
Southern Montana Electric recently asked the state to revoke its air quality permit for a coal-fired power plant, as the company is shifting its focus to a smaller natural gas plant. Meanwhile, the City of Great Falls is taking a closer look at their future involvement in the power business all together. Last month, city commissioners approved plans to hire a third-party energy consulting firm, to asses the long term viability of Electric City Power. Consultants with Burns & McDonnell have already interviewed city commission members, city staff and ECP board members. Next week, the public can share their opinions during an informal listening session. Cheryl Patton, Great Falls assistant City Manager, explained, "Consultants from Burns and McDonnell will sit and listen to comments that citizens might have about the city's involvement. They will take the information under advisement as part of the research that they're doing on this project." The listening session will be held on Tuesday, August 11th at 7:00 pm in the Civic Center's Gibson room. The consultants will also accept comments in writing, especially long-form statements. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can submit a written comment to City Clerk Lisa Kunz at this address: City of Great Falls |
