A BAD IDEA

This letter is in response to Mr. R TryonÕs misconceptions and inaccuracies about Citizens for Clean Energy, Inc.  We donÕt deny we use electricity and recognize the growing worldwide demand for more power.  We want responsible solutions that

Pollute as little as possible.

We advocate for sustainable alternatives (i.e., wind, solar, updating old hydro turbines

for greater efficiency, conservation).  Several times weÕve offered to work cooperatively

with our city government to find better alternatives for our local energy needs, only too

Be rebuffed or ignored.

Our organization has closely followed the legislative process and has worked with the Montana Environmental Information Center to draft bills and testify on proposed legislation that would provide clean, affordable, long-range energy solutions.  Current environmental laws are weak and poorly enforced.  They need to be more protective of our air, water and health; they also need to address climate change.

The proposed outdated Highwood coal-fired plant isnÕt the answer for our environment or our economy. It will drive away more residents and businesses than it will attract.  How would you like to build your dream home in a town compromised by coal pollution?

As a former air traffic control specialist, IÕm concerned that a 400-foot smokestack will compromise instrument flight patterns and jeopardize future aircraft missions at Malmstrom.  In upcoming elections weÕll be voting for candidates who share our goals.

We invite you to attend our meetings and help us bring a prosperous and clean energy future to our community.  Visit cce-mt.org or phone 455-6412.
