When
will the City and County Commissioners understand that a Coal Plant means the
production of TOXIC POLLUTANTS, GREEN HOUSE GASES, MELT DOWN of the POLAR ICE
CAPS and power!!! There is no such thing as clean coal; there is no
method today or in future development that will mitigate the pollutants created
by a coal- fired plant. DonÕt we have a moral obligation to use clean
renewable energy? Is using coal really the cheapest source of energy when
you consider the environmental impact?
How
about these for questions of the day, Tribune, ÒWill the stench from the
coal-fired plant compete with that of the oil refinery?Ó (Which has been sited
numerous times by the EPA for air quality infractions?), ÒAre the 65 jobs the
coal plant will create worth the environmental destruction it will produce? Ò
(The Citizens will never get power from this plant.), ÒWould you have chosen to
live in Great Falls if you knew it was considering building a coal-fired
plant?Ó, ÒWill the City Commissioners ever answer questions from concerned
citizens about the coal plant asked at commission meetings over the last couple
of years?Ó, or ÒDoes a possible $70,000 a year saving to the city in
electricity costs warrant a $3.5 million expenditure in tax payers money?Ó (Had
the Commissioners done the math Ð ThatÕs over 30 years to recoup the tax
payersÕ $3.5 million expenditure.)? Check facts at Citizens for Clean
Energy (CCE) www.cce-mt.org.
